Polular science! What are the shipping precautions for chemicals? Did you know that?

Date:2019/12/14 Click:608 times
Chemical shipping is an important part of the shipping market. Marine chemicals are also a very important part of every shipper. What are the precautions for marine chemicals? Today, let's follow Xiaobian to understand.

First of all, let's understand that chemicals mainly include:

Chemicals mainly include organic chemicals, inorganic chemicals and vegetable oil animal fat. The types of organic chemicals mainly include ethylene, ethylene dichloride, vinyl chloride monomer, styrene monomer, glycol, cyanogen, benzene, methyl tert butyl ether, etc., accounting for about 46% of the chemical shipping volume; the types of inorganic chemicals mainly include phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, etc., accounting for about 15% of the chemical shipping volume; vegetable oil and animal fat account for about 25% of the chemical shipping volume Right.

In addition to the above categories of goods to be carried by chemical ships, other chemicals with large volume include lubricating oil and syrup. The sea transportation volume of lubricating oil is about 6 million tons per year, and the sea transportation volume of syrup is more than 7 million tons per year.

China is a large shipping country with great potential to develop chemical transportation by sea. With the rise of China's economy in the world, China's chemical transportation by sea is bound to have a leap across the era. Now let's take a look at the precautions for chemical shipping?

1. Understand the basic properties of chemicals

In order to carry out the international transportation of chemicals safely, it is necessary to have a detailed understanding of some basic properties of chemicals, such as toxicity, ignition point, volatility, etc., and to make special notes in the relevant documents, so as to facilitate the packing, loading, unloading and handling of the operators.

2. Comply with dangerous goods transportation regulations and operate according to the process

In the process of chemical transportation, special attention should be paid to relevant processes and regulations. For example, some dangerous goods must be transported in accordance with the relevant regulations. The packing must be secure and the label must be pasted. In the process of packing, open fire and high temperature shall be avoided as far as possible, so as to effectively prevent the explosion and volatilization of chemicals and ensure the safety and health of personnel. When selecting a container, you need to check the container specially. For example, whether there are cracks, or whether the door can be closed tightly. Special attention shall be paid to the international transportation of chemicals. All the goods must be put into the container, and there shall be no case where the door cannot be closed or sealed.

3. Common problems in chemical shipping

A. what documents are required for the export of chemicals by sea?

Generally, MSDS and sea power of attorney shall be provided. In case of dangerous goods, the packaging performance certificate of dangerous goods, appraisal report of Chemical Research Institute and normal customs declaration materials shall also be provided.

B. why MSDS should be provided for the export of dangerous goods and general chemicals by sea?

MSDS is an important document to transmit chemical hazard information. It outlines the hazards of a chemical to human health and the environment and provides information on the safe handling, storage and use of the chemical. The United States, Japan, EU countries and other developed countries have generally established and implemented MSDS system. According to the chemical management regulations of these countries, the manufacturers of hazardous chemicals usually provide a safety data sheet of their products when selling, transporting or exporting their products.

At present, the foreign requirements for MSDs (SDS) have been expanded to almost all chemicals. At this point, the chemicals exported to developed countries are basically required to have MSDS (SDS) to successfully declare. Moreover, some foreign purchasers require to provide MSDS (SDS) of articles, and some domestic foreign enterprises or joint ventures will also put forward such requirements.

4. Information required for the export of chemicals (not dangerous goods):

A. before export, a chemical inspection report (goods transportation condition appraisal) shall be made to prove that the goods are not dangerous goods.

B. full container - some ships need certificates, some ships don't need certificates. In addition, a non dangerous letter of guarantee and MSDS are necessary.

C. LCL - non dangerous letter of guarantee and description of goods (Chinese and English product name, molecular structure, appearance and use) shall be provided.

5. Materials required for the export of chemicals:

A. before export, a certificate (dangerous package certificate) must be made for the use of transport package of outbound dangerous goods. Of course, MSDS is also needed.

B. full container - the above two documents need to be provided for application before booking, waiting for the owner's review. Generally, the owner will know whether to accept it within 3-5 days

This product. Dangerous goods booking shall be applied for 10-14 days in advance as far as possible, and sufficient time shall be given to both consignor and forwarder.

C. LCL - Dangerous package certificate and MSDS, weight and volume of cargo shall also be provided before booking.
